Remembrance Day 2021

This year for Remembrance Day, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCDSB) paid respects to the extraordinary men and women whose services and sacrifices will never be forgotten through preparing a virtual Remembrance Day ceremony on Nov. 11th. The service, which used various forms of prayer, readings, music, and video, acknowledged the day’s importance and was a powerful social connection that included various schools participating in its production.

Following today’s events, the SCDSB has provided a clip of our opening video that was viewed at our virtual ceremony.

The following presentation highlights historic clippings and images of war veterans as well as beautiful artwork and visual displays that our school’s students and staff brought forward this year.

In addition to the video, please see the gallery of photos below. The gallery demonstrates wonderful examples of various activities and lessons school’s had participated in leading up to and on this important day of reflection.

Special thanks is given to the staff and students whose provided contributions enabled us to put together an amazing virtual service for our entire board. Thank you everyone!

Bishop Alexander Carter School Celebrates Official Opening of New 7 & 8 Wing

Sudbury, ON – On Tuesday, September 28th, 2021, Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic School celebrated the official opening of its new elementary wing.

In attendance were Elder, Sandra Corbiere from Sagamok and Wahnapitae First Nation, Deacon Steve Callaghan, staff and students from Bishop Alexander Carter, Trustees, and central office staff.

Key features of the upgrades at Bishop Alexander Carter, include a renovated gymnasium and eight new, modern and spacious classrooms. In addition, the new 7 and 8 wing is equipped with new and advanced technological equipment such as Chromebooks, and multi-media capabilities, all designed to grow students’ knowledge, inspire them and to maximize their learning.

According to Bishop Alexander Carter’s Principal, Stephanie Venturi, these additions provide precious opportunities to benefit students’ understanding of different subjects and help unlock each child’s potential. “Technology is the great engine of educational mobility. Today’s minds are tomorrow’s future, and with the new opportunities we have for both teachers and students in the wing, we’re confident that we can provide the tools and instruction that children need to thrive in their chosen pathways.”

“Being here for three weeks, we’re starting to see the school community come together, and it’s beautiful.” Says teacher, Jody O’Daiskey “We’re all working together to collaborate, and I’m excited to see how this develops more as time goes on. We have a great team of teachers who all have different subject backgrounds that are going to create a strong and cohesive division, and I think it’s going to be a great year.”

“It was a delight to see students in my community learning in the new classrooms at Bishop. It is an amazing school community, and I’m thrilled we can honour this new chapter.” – SCDSB Chair, Michael Bellmore

Bishop is one of 18 schools in SCDSB’s school system. Currently, the elementary wing has 201 students enrolled and 12 teachers. Both Bishop and the SCDSB hopes to continue to increase the enrollment of elementary students by offering advanced learning opportunities to help children be the best they can be in life through innovative education.
